The central defender returns to Ireland after short stint in England.

Horton signed for Bohemian's on loan in 2022, but only made 11 appearances after a knee injury cut his season short.

He remained with The Gypsies for the start of the 2023 campaign and scored the opening goal of the season against Cork City at Turners Cross.

The centre-back made 20 Premier Division appearances for Bohemians in 2023 before returning to his parent club for the second half of the season.

Horton has been limited to only two EFL Trophy matches for Cheltenham before signing permanently for Waterford.

“I’m buzzing to be here to be honest and finally get it over the line” Horton said to Waterford's media team.

“The season starts very soon, and I can’t wait to get in front of the fans and show them what I’m about.

“It’s a brilliant league to be in at the moment. There’s a lot of other leagues watching, and the competitiveness is just getting more.

“I’m really looking forward to work under Keith (Long) again. I had a little stint at Bohs under him, which unfortunately got cut short.

“I can’t wait to get straight into the action on Friday in front of the fans.”

The aforementioned Keith Long said, “Grant is a player I have worked with in the past. He’s got Premier Division experience, he’s coming to us at a good age.

“He’s aggressive, he likes a tackle, he’s quick, he’s strong, he has a decent passing range, he’s good on the ball. I think he’s something slightly different to what we have already within the squad.”

Waterford begin their Premier Division campaign against Shelbourne in the RSC this Friday.

Waterford boss Long spoke to extratime.com last week and stated Waterford are ‘ready’ for the start of the season.
