Mikey Johnston off the mark for West Brom

The Republic of Ireland international grabbed his first goal for the West Midlands club last night.

Johnston signed on deadline day of the January transfer window from Celtic on loan until the end of the season to help bolster West Brom’s promotion challenge.

Despite featuring for Brendan Rodgers side this campaign, a move for regular first team action was needed as extratime.com reported earlier this month.

Johnston made his first start for the Baggies last night after appearing twice from the bench since signing so far.

It only took the Glaswegian 30 seconds to make an impact on the match when he turned home a Tom Fellows cross to make it 1-0 to the hosts.

Sky Sports pundit Courtney Sweetman-Kirk called the winger the ‘best player on the park’ during the second half.

West Brom went on to win the game 2-0 against Cardiff as Carlos Corberan’s Baggies look to consolidate their play-off spot. The currently sit in fifth place in the Championship on 52 points, 4 points clear of seventh place Hull City.

Meanwhile, former Republic of Ireland international Shay Given has casted doubt on Lee Carsley taking the Irish job.
