The Republic of Ireland international joined Vincent Kompany’s Burnley last summer.

The 24-year-old started for the Clarets in defence against Liverpool away at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Burnley went 1-0 down in the first half after Diogo Jota scored a header from a corner kick after James Trafford misjudged the flight of the ball.

However, Burnley equalised before half time from a corner kick also when Dara O’Shea’s header beat his Irish international teammate Caomhin Kelleher in the Reds net to level the game.

The Corkman was handed a start after Alisson Becker missed the match due to illness. Kelleher was the target of Nottigham Forest during the January Transfer Window.

Liverpool responded in the second half and ran out 3-1 winners after goals from Luiz Diaz and Darwin Nunez sealed three points for the home side.

O’Shea has made 24 appearances for Burnley this season who are currently in the bottom three, eight points from safety.

Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley praised his young star after victory in the President’s Cup on Friday night.
