48 League of Ireland games set for TV coverage

There will be additional television broadcasts of live League of Ireland games this season.

At the league launch on Wednesday, it was declared the overall prize money for the League of Ireland's three Divisions has risen 17% from €655,000 to €765,000.

This was partly due to the SSE Airtricity's sponsorship extension in late 2023 but also the further support of TV broadcasts of the domestic game.

The new season comes with an increase in television broadcasts as an extra seven live broadcasts on Virgin Media which brings the total number of games broadcast live on free to air TV across RTÉ, Virgin Media and TG4 to 48 matches including twelve games in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division on TG4.

Virgin Media last month announced their landmark deal to show 14 live games across the year in the Men’s Premier Division, an improvement of 50% on their coverage of the 2023 season which included the end of season Promotion / Relegation Play-Off.

Mick McCaffrey, Head of News and Sport at Virgin Media Television said last month on the deal that Virgin were ‘delighted’ to commit to 14 games in 2024.

"We are delighted to build on the positive momentum of our coverage last season by committing to broadcasting 14 SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division games.

“Scheduling matches on Monday nights mean League of Ireland fans have the opportunity to watch a live game that would previously have not been broadcast while many were attending matches in person.

“This gives ourselves, and the FAI the opportunity to build audiences and enhance the profile of the league. We are looking forward to being at as many grounds as possible across the country and expect season 2024 to be extremely exciting and competitive.”

Earlier today, TG4 confirmed their first four live games they will be showing as part of their coverage of the Women’s Premier Division this season.

On top of the live TV coverage, over 450 live League of Ireland games will be broadcast across the three Divisions on LOI TV and will also be available with the season pass on sale for €120 on loitv.ie.
