"Not many like that" - Fleetwood Town manager Charlie Adam praises Irish U21s star
The former Liverpool midfielder has hailed his on-loan star Bosun Lawal following his arrival at the club.
The Fisherman have been battling to maintain their place in League One, but Lawal has been asserting himself as a leading light.
The versatile 20-year-old, who can play both in defence and midfield has featured in 25 of their 28 league games this season, with a single goal to his personal tally that came in their 2-1 victory against reading in October of last year.
St Kevin’s Boys graduate, Lawal spent time at Watford, winning their Academy Player of the Season, where Troy Deeney compared him to Abdoulaye Doucouré and added: “There are not many young players that catch your eye and you go ‘oh, he’s gonna have a career’ and he certainly does that.”
Adam spoke highly of the Dubliner saying: “Unfortunately, Bosun is not our player but while he is here, he is our player and what he has done since he has been here is give us a good base in terms of his size and physicality.
“How he dribbles with the ball, his touches and passes. There are not many midfielders like that in the Championship in England let alone League One. So, he has got a bright future. He is at a big football club in Celtic.
“We are lucky to have him here at Fleetwood and in the coming months to the end of the season we will send a better player back than when he came in here.”
Prior to his move to Fleetwood, Lawal signed a long-term contract to stay with Celtic until at least 2026.
Lawal joined Celtic in 2021 and made his first senior appearance off the bench during their 5-0 Scottish FA Cup win over Morton in January 2023.
Elsewhere, another Irish player that is thriving is Jonathan Afolabi who scored his first goal for his new club in Belgium.
