Crystal Palace welcomes Daniel Muñoz from Genk until 2027
Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Colombian defender Daniel Muñoz from Genk on a contract extending until 2027, with the option of an additional year.
Muñoz, 27, has scored seven goals and provided two assists in the 2023/24 season.
Muñoz's career began in Colombia, leading to a move to Atlético Nacional, the country's most successful club.
His European journey started in 2020 with a transfer to Genk in Belgium, where he celebrated winning the Belgian Cup in his debut season.
The defender's international career has been equally impressive, with his debut for Colombia in 2021 and 23 caps to date.
He played a role in Colombia's journey to the Copa America semi-finals, where they were narrowly defeated by Lionel Messi's Argentina.
Muñoz will be joining Jefferson Lerma as the second Colombian player at Palace.
Chairman Steve Parish expressed his enthusiasm for the new signing.
“We are delighted to welcome a player of Daniel's quality and character to the club,” he said.
Parish praised Muñoz's experience and record, adding, “I am certain his ability, athleticism and tenacity will be a huge boost to the squad.”
On joining Crystal Palace, Muñoz shared his excitement.
"It's a pleasure for me to be here at such a historic club, such a big club as Crystal Palace. I'm very excited, very happy, and I can't wait to be on the pitch," he said.
