Bolton Wanderers have bolstered their squad with the loan signing of Liverpool's Calvin Ramsay, adding an international dimension to their defensive line.

Ramsay, a full Scotland international and former Aberdeen defender, joins the Wanderers for the remainder of the season.

This move marks Wanderers’ second signing of the January transfer window, following Nathanael Ogbeta from Swansea City.

Ramsay follows the path of Liverpool full-backs Owen Beck and Conor Bradley, who had successful loan spells at Wanderers last season, with Bradley being named Player-of-the-Year.

Aberdeen-born Ramsay progressed through his hometown club's youth ranks, making his Scottish Premiership debut in March 2021.

He garnered attention with 20 top-flight starts in the following season, leading to his recognition as the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year and a subsequent move to Liverpool in June 2022.

Ramsay's time at Liverpool included a Champions League appearance and a first start in an EFL Cup tie.

His international career progressed with a debut for Scotland in a friendly against Turkey, although an injury cut short his first season at Anfield.

After a loan spell at Preston North End, Ramsay now joins Wanderers to further his experience and contribute to their promotion ambitions. He takes the squad number 20.

Manager Ian Evatt expressed gratitude to Liverpool and optimism about Ramsay's impact.

“We’re really grateful to Liverpool for trusting us with one of their young assets,” Evatt said.

“Calvin is a really good player... he’s a very talented young player and we're really fortunate Liverpool chose us over a lot of other options for him."

Evatt also spoke about managing Ramsay's integration into the team, considering his recent lack of game time.

“Josh (Dacres-Cogley) has done an incredible job... now we feel we can rotate a little bit," he added, indicating potential changes in the team's defensive strategy.
