First Division Cobh Ramblers have confirmed the exit of talented teenager Charlie Cummins from the club ahead of the 2024 season.

The 19-year-old was recently named as the Rams under-19 player of the year and made one senior appearance for the club last season.

And he has impressed enough with English League One side Exeter to earn himself a contract there.

Former Bray Wanderers defender Pierce Sweeney is already on the books of the St James’ Park outfit.

Midfielder Cummins will now be managed by Gary Caldwell at Exeter - and he said: “He is someone we got in on trial a couple of weeks ago and it felt only right to bring someone in with a profile that is hard to find in the modern game.

“He is an aggressive and tenacious midfielder and a few players felt the power of his tackles! He has a big future and is pleased he is here.

“We have to progress him slowly, but he is eager to make an impact and he is someone that we are bringing in with the hope of being in the first team longer term.”

But the Rams have acted quickly to recruit a replacement with Dean Larkin joining on loan from Waterford.

Larkin has previously worked with current Ramblers boss Gary Hunt when the pair were at the Blues together.

The player also spent last season on loan at St Colman’s Park

“I’m delighted to be back for the new season,” he said.

“I really enjoyed my time at the club last year and I’m looking to build on what we achieved from last season.”
