FAI Intermediate Cup Round Up: Ringmahon Rangers pull off stunning comeback to reach quarter finals
Storm Isha played havoc with the Round of 16 in the FAI Intermediate Cup, but some ties were able to go ahead.
Kilbarrack United, College Corinthians, Ballyfermot United, Carrigaline United, and Ringmahon Rangers are all through the quarter finals.
Glebe North’s meeting with Maynooth University Town was postponed, and so was Midleton FC’s clash with Rockmount at Knockgriffin Park.
One game is scheduled for January 27th and that is Wilton United and Wayside Celtic at Pat Bowdren Park on the Lee Road in Cork.
The story of this round was Ringmahon Rangers stunning comeback against Ayrfield United.
The Munster Senior League side were trailing 2-1 in extra-time and they scored twice in a matter of minutes through Anthony McAlavey and Adam O’Callaghan.
It was a snatch and grab win for the Ringers, who had a team featuring former League of Ireland players Eric Grimes and Cameron Harlson.
Carrigaline United left it late to book their place in the quarter finals. They faced Leeds AFC at Ballea Park and a rematch of this season’s Keane Cup semi-finals was decided by an Adam Costello goal in the 120th minute.
Kilbarrack United – who were beaten in the quarter finals last year by Rockmount – enjoyed a 3-0 victory over St Francis.
Deiric Hyland – an Irish Amateur international who played for Shelbourne’s U19s last year- netted a brace for his side.
Munster Senior League leaders College Corinthians continued their excellent season by knocking out Cobh Wanderers at the Stephen Ireland Astro. Gary Hackett’s side featured League of Ireland veteran Ian Turner and Craig Donnelan, and they put the south-side club through to the quarter finals for the first time since 2022.
The draw for the quarter finals and semi-finals was made earlier this week by the FAI:
