Sheffield United have bolstered their squad with the addition of Croatian international goalkeeper Ivo Grbić.

The 28-year-old has made the switch from Atletico Madrid for an undisclosed fee and is poised to join the team for their upcoming FA Cup match against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Grbić, standing at 6ft 5in, brings with him not only international experience with two caps for Croatia but also Champions League pedigree.

After arriving in the UK earlier this week and completing his medical, Grbić inked a deal that will see him at Sheffield United until 2027.

In his initial interview as a Blade, Grbić expressed his enthusiasm. "My first impressions of the club are very good," he said.

"I am really happy to be here... It is a big thing for every player to move to the Premier League and I am delighted to join Sheffield United."

He emphasised the significance of this new chapter, saying, "This is the best challenge for me... It will be fun to play in front of our fans and I want to be involved as soon as possible."

Reflecting on his past experiences in France, Spain, and the Champions League with Lille and Atletico Madrid, Grbić affirmed, "I know I am ready now for this challenge."

Sheffield United's manager, Chris Wilder, highlighted the club's commitment to securing a long-term goalkeeper.

"We have done our homework on Ivo and we believe he can be an important member of our squad," Wilder stated.

Grbić's football journey began at the Hajduk Split academy in Croatia at the age of nine.

He rose through the ranks, representing Croatia from his early teens and making his first-team debut in April 2015.

After a stint at Lokomotiva Zagreb, Grbić signed with Atletico Madrid in 2020.

While on loan at Lille, Grbić earned his first senior caps for Croatia and contributed to Champions League matches.

Internationally, he has been capped at various youth levels and was part of Croatia's 2022 World Cup squad, which finished third.
