Kalvin Phillips joins West Ham United on loan from Manchester City
West Ham United has confirmed the loan signing of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
The 28-year-old is set to potentially make his West Ham debut in the upcoming Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth.
Phillips, an established England international with 31 caps, played a significant role in England's campaign at UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He joins West Ham after a successful period with Manchester City, where he won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
Reflecting on his move, Phillips said, “I’m really pleased to be here. There’s so much to look forward to with the Club in the second half of the season. I’m sure we can give the West Ham fans plenty to be excited about.”
West Ham United manager David Moyes welcomed Phillips, commenting, “We are really pleased to bring a player of Kalvin’s quality to West Ham United. He is an England international midfielder with proven Premier League experience, and we’re excited to have him join the group.”
Phillips began his career at Leeds United, joining their academy at 14 and playing a crucial role in their promotion to the Premier League.
He was also part of the EFL Championship PFA Team of the Year in 2019/20. His performances at Leeds led to an England call-up before his Premier League debut and a move to Manchester City in July 2022.
Phillips is expected to bring defensive strength and distribution skills to the West Ham midfield as the team competes for European qualification and progresses in the UEFA Europa League.
