Galway United sign goalkeeper Joe Wright
The Tribesmen have bolstered their ranks further ahead of the new season with English goalkeeper Joe Wright signing on a permanent deal from Millwall.
Wright came through the academy at Millwall after joining at the age of 13 years old.
Despite being in matchday squads for the Lions, he failed to make a first team appearance. Wright had spells on loan away from the Den at Bath City and Salford.
The 22-year-old will provide some competition for current number one Brendan Clarke who was a stalwart in Galway gaining promotion back to the Premier Division last year.
Speaking to the Galway United media team, the Londoner spoke how he had conversations with John Caulfield and Ollie Horgan over Zoom and the ‘buzz’ around the city after promotion made it something he wanted to be a part of.
Speaking on X (formerly Twitter), Wright stated,
“Buzzing to be here, looking forward to the season ahead”.
Galway United's first game back in the Premier Division is against FAI Cup winners St. Patrick’s Athletic on the 16thFebruary in Eamon Deacy Park.
