Barry Baggley signs for The Blues
Barry Baggley extends his stay with Waterford as he signs on for his second season on loan.
The 22-year-old began his career in Linfield and Glentoran, before transferring overseas to English League One side Fleetwood Town.
After signing a 3-year-deal for Joey Barton's Fleetwood town, the midfielder was sent on loan in 2021 to National League side, Altrincham before returning to Fleetwood Town only a month later.
Two years later, Baggley was loaned to Sister club Waterford FC in 2023 where he played a pivotal role in the blues success, defeating Cork City in the Premier Division play-off final, securing promotion.
He appeared 33 times in blue, scoring twice with 12 assists from centre midfield.
“I’m buzzing to be back Waterford as it was somewhere where I really enjoyed playing my football last year. We had that success of getting promoted so I’m looking to get back and build on that this year” said Baggley peaking with WaterfordFc.ie.
“It was an easy decision; I know what I’m going back in to. I love all the boys, and I love playing there. The fans are great, and it’s going to be a good challenge this year in the Premier Division.”
Head Coach Keith Long expressed his delighted with Waterfordfc.ie: “It was no secret of our desire to bring Barry back to the club. He was fantastic for us last year; a real important member of our squad, so we’re absolutely delighted to get him back to Waterford.
“I think all our supporters will be happy. Obviously, it’s a step-up in the Premier Division this year, but we’re going to need the players like Barry and the quality that he brings to the team in our dressing room.
“I think it’s a real positive for everyone at the club, a real positive addition to the squad for 2024. Hopefully Barry will continue to thrive and develop well in the Premier Division, and we’re looking forward to seeing him back in a blue shirt.”
Waterford kick off their league campaign back in the topflight against Damien Duff’s Shelbourne in the RSC on the 16th of February.
