Millwall Football Club have officially announced the loan signing of 24-year-old defender Japhet Tanganga from Tottenham Hotspur for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
This move marks Joe Edwards' first signing as the Head Coach of The Lions and the club's initial acquisition in the January transfer window.
A player capable of performing as a right-back or centre-back, Tanganga is a product of the Tottenham Academy and has made an impressive fifty first-team appearances in all competitions.
He made his Premier League debut against Liverpool in January 2020.
Tanganga's football journey includes being capped at various levels for England, from Under 16 to Under 21, and he was part of the 2021 Under 21 European Championship squad.
He also brings experience from playing in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League.
Alex Aldridge, Millwall's Director of Football Operations and Recruitment, expressed his satisfaction with the signing.
"We are really pleased to bring Japhet in... Japhet is hungry and motivated to play games, he has some excellent attributes as a defender and has played at a very high level with Tottenham Hotspur, so we feel he is a really positive addition."
Tanganga, who will be wearing the number six shirt for The Lions, is set to join the team for their upcoming Sky Bet Championship match against Queens Park Rangers, pending international clearance.
In a conversation with Millwall TV+, Tanganga shared his thoughts.
"I'm very happy [to be at Millwall]... The opportunity to come here presented itself... so it was the best option for me to come here and be a part of Millwall."
"Fans will see me competing and giving 100% first and foremost. My style is aggressive and on the front foot and to give everything for the fans and the club."
