Liverpool defender Rhys Williams will join Port Vale on loan until the end of the 2023-24 season.

The 22-year-old's move was finalised on Tuesday, marking his latest step in a career that began in Liverpool's Academy at age 10.

Williams, who has made 19 senior appearances for Liverpool, most notably in the 2020-21 season, has previously had loan stints at Aberdeen, Blackpool, Swansea City, and Kidderminster Harriers.

His new journey at Vale Park under Andy Crosby comes as Port Vale, currently 15th in League One, prepares for their next match against Wycombe Wanderers.

Port Vale's management expressed enthusiasm over the signing.

Manager Andy Crosby stated, “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Rhys to Vale Park. He enhances our defensive options with his quality and will be a popular figure off the pitch too.”

David Flitcroft, Port Vale FC’s Director of Football, echoed Crosby's sentiments, emphasising Williams' potential and fit with the team.

“Rhys is a committed and combative defender who enjoys to get on the ball,” Flitcroft said.
