Trevor Clarke signs permanent deal with Shamrock Rovers

Trevor Clarke has signed a full-time contract with Shamrock Rovers.

The left-sided player was on loan at the Hoops last season from Bristol Rovers.

Clarke, 25, was pivotal to Rovers last season as they completed the four in a row with in the League of Ireland top-flight.

Clarke began his footballing career with boyhood club Crumlin United.

Working his way through the youth academies of St Kevins Boys and Middlesborough, before the midfielder landed himself in the Shamrock Rovers academy in 2015 and he excelled through the club from then on.

Making his debut senior appearance for the hoops in 2016, Clarke went on to make 80 appearances in green and white, securing a personal tally of five goals over the course of three years in Dublin 24.

He then departed overseas to Championship side Rotherham, and then to Bristol Rovers where he stayed for three years until last season.

Bristol Rovers terminated the Dubliner's contract by mutual consent. He appeared 24 times for the League One outfit in total.

“I’m delighted to get it done," Clarke said. "The big difference is it is now a permanent deal, something I’ve been looking to get done the past while.

"I’m delighted to get it over the line and looking forward to the season ahead.

“I’m feeling good now as we start pre-season and hopefully all the injuries are behind me. When I was getting a run of form and scoring, the injury came at the wrong time. So hopefully I’ll be injury-free and play in Europe and looking forward to getting back with the lads.

“Europe is a big one. I missed it last season due to injury, which was very frustrating for me. So, with my game, getting down the line, beating people, getting crosses in, hopefully I can do that and help the team.

“I’m back at the club where I feel most at home. So that’s a big thing for me to be back on a permanent basis. Most of the group and staff are the same from last season so it was an easy decision to come back home."
