Barnsley sign Donovan Pines from DC United
Barnsley have announced the signing of 25-year-old centre back Donovan Pines on a free transfer from DC United.
Pines, who has agreed to a deal lasting until summer 2025 with an option for an additional year, joins Barnsley pending international clearance and a successful visa application.
Pines began his career in Maryland, USA, and signed a homegrown contract with DC United in 2019.
Since making his MLS debut against Colorado Rapids in April 2019, he has made 87 league appearances.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the new chapter, Pines said, "I’m really excited to be here. There is a lot of history here, since 1887, and I’m really excited to put my foot in the water and test it and do the best I can for the club."
Barnsley's Interim Director of Football, Bobby Hassell, highlighted Pines' significance as a transfer target.
“Donovan was highlighted prior to my arrival into the role and became our top target this January window," Hassell stated.
"His physical stature allows him to be aerially dominant and combative... making him a versatile defender against different attacking players."
