Burton Albion welcome Joe Hugill on loan from Manchester United
Burton Albion have announced the loan signing of Joe Hugill, a striker from Manchester United, for the remainder of the season.
The 20-year-old has immediately joined the Brewers' squad for the upcoming game against Derby County.
Hugill, originally from Durham, joined Manchester United's academy in 2020 from Sunderland, with a past stint at Newcastle United.
He has made a significant impact at United, scoring on his Under-23 debut and achieving a rare feat of netting four goals against Liverpool.
Manager Martin Paterson expressed his satisfaction with the signing.
"We're really happy to get the loan signing of Joe over the line," he said.
Paterson also acknowledged the effort behind the scenes to secure Hugill's services, noting his own personal connection with the player from a previous work experience at Barnsley.
Hugill commented on the move, "It's a great opportunity for me. I'm really looking forward to meeting the lads and getting going."
Burton's family-oriented nature was a significant factor in his decision to join, and is eager to begin scoring goals for the club.
"Burton is a family club and I'm very family oriented myself which played a huge part in me coming here. I know a couple of the boys who are already here and they've been really positive about the place."
Hugill will take squad number 44.
In other transfer news, Brewers forward Josh Gordon has moved to Walsall on loan, while midfielder Charlie Lakin has been loaned to Sutton United after a spell at AFC Wimbledon.
Additionally, Burton Albion and Watford have mutually agreed to end Kwadwo Baah's loan early due to injury, with Baah returning to his parent club.
