Oxford United welcome Jamie Cumming on loan from Chelsea, Forest Green Rovers sign Alex Rodriguez Gorrin
Oxford United have strengthened its squad by securing 24-year-old goalkeeper Jamie Cumming on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.
Cumming, a Chelsea Academy product who has represented England at under 17 and under 19 levels, has loan experiences at Stevenage, Gillingham, and MK Dons, where he earned the Player of the Year title last season.
Des Buckingham, Head Coach of Oxford United, expressed confidence in Cumming's abilities. "Jamie is a really good keeper... Lewis Price, our goalkeeping coach, worked with him at MK and rates him very highly," he said.
Cumming shared his motivation for joining Oxford United, saying, "They’ve got a really strong team who are up there challenging in the play-off places, and the facilities at the Training Ground are great. After speaking with the gaffer, it was an easy decision to make the move."
Ed Waldron, Head of Recruitment at Oxford United, commented on Cumming's potential impact. "With over 150 senior appearances already at the age of 24, he has good experience for a young goalkeeper... He will be a real asset to us in the second half of the season."
In related news, Forest Green Rovers have announced the signing of midfielder Alex Rodriguez Gorrin from Oxford United.
The 30-year-old Spaniard, known for his contributions to Oxford's League One play-off campaigns in 2019/20 and 2020/21, joins as the first addition in the January transfer window.
Gorrin expressed his enthusiasm about the new challenge.
"I will bring experience, energy and leadership to the group. Hopefully, I can contribute and help the club achieve the goal of pushing up the table," he stated.
Troy Deeney, Head Coach of Forest Green Rovers, praised Gorrin's skills and anticipated his positive influence on the team.
"Alex will bring us real quality, professionalism and know-how... He’s a physical presence, but also really good technically. He can play one or two touch and he’s got a great range of passing too," Deeney added.
