Chelsea welcome Bjorn from Everton
Chelsea have signed Swedish defender Nathalie Bjorn from Everton. She joins Chelsea on a three-and-a-half-year deal, lasting until mid-2027.
At 26 years old, Bjorn brings a wealth of experience, having been a crucial player for Everton since July 2021.
Bjorn, who played a key role in Sweden's third-place finish at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, expressed her excitement about the move. "It feels amazing! To sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe feels like part of a dream that you have when you are young. I’m very excited to get this journey started,” she said.
Paul Green, Chelsea's General Manager, praised Bjorn's versatility and experience. "Nathalie is a very experienced, versatile player that we have been tracking for a long time. She is a leader, has good pace, is good on the ball, and knows our league very well," he remarked.
Bjorn has showcased her versatility by playing in central defense and midfield for both club and country.
Her experience includes success with Rosengard in Sweden, where she won a league title and two Swedish Cups, and participation in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Since her move from Sweden to Everton in 2021, Bjorn has established herself in the Women’s Super League (WSL), playing over 300 senior games.
A current Swedish international with 61 caps, she has also earned a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and achieved third-place finishes at the 2019 and 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cups.
Bjorn shared her enthusiasm for joining Chelsea and her readiness for the challenges ahead. "You will see that I will fight 100%, I want to win every duel and every game. You will see some of my qualities with my passing and passing through lines is my biggest quality, I would say. I hope that I can help the team with my style of play,” she stated.
Her arrival at Chelsea reunites her with Swedish teammates Zecira Musovic and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.
Bjorn is set to make her debut in big upcoming matches against Manchester United and Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge in the WSL and UEFA Women’s Champions League.
