FC Bayern have announced the signing of England international defender Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur, with a contract running until June 30, 2024, and an option for an additional year.

Dier, who will don the No. 15 jersey, expressed his excitement about the move, stating, "This move is a dream come true for me...Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history."

Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, commented on the acquisition: "We’re pleased we’ve been able to sign Eric Dier. He’s long been in our thinking for this transfer window...His sporting abilities and international experience will help the team."

The 29-year-old began his career in Portugal with Sporting Lisbon, making his senior debut in 2012.

He then moved back to England for the 2014/15 season with Tottenham, where he made 365 competitive appearances and scored 13 goals.

Dier has also been a versatile player for England, earning 49 caps and playing in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, as well as Euro 2016.

Dier's versatility is a significant asset for Bayern, as he can play in central defense, right-back, or defensive midfield.

"He’s now a specialist as a centre-back...He can play as either of the centre-backs or in a three," noted Thomas Tuchel in a press conference.

Born in Cheltenham, southwest England, Dier grew up in Portugal, where he joined the Sporting Lisbon academy at nine.

His family has a sporting background, with his grandfather being a former secretary at the FA and his father a professional tennis player.

After nearly a decade at Tottenham, Dier now looks forward to a new chapter in Germany at Bayern, hoping to add to his trophy cabinet.

He will be reunited with former Tottenham and England teammate Harry Kane, who joined Bayern last year.
