Tottenham Hotspur secures loan deal for RB Leipzig's Timo Werner

Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig, pending international clearance.

The German international will be with the club until the season's end, with a potential permanent deal in the offing.

Werner, 27, will don the number 16 shirt for Spurs.

Timo's journey in football started at TSV Steinhaldenfeld and later at VfB Stuttgart’s youth team.

He made his senior debut in August 2013, setting a record as the youngest player in Stuttgart's history to play in a Europa League qualifying match.

He emerged as VfB Stuttgart's youngest-ever goalscorer, marking his first professional goal in the Bundesliga in September 2013.

Werner moved to RB Leipzig in 2016/17, their first season in the Bundesliga.

He proved pivotal, scoring 21 goals in 32 games, leading Leipzig to a second-place finish and Champions League qualification.

During his tenure at Leipzig, Werner consistently topped the club's scoring charts and made Bundesliga history with a hat-trick of goals and assists in an 8-0 triumph over Mainz.

His standout 2019/20 season, with 34 goals in 45 games, earned him the Bundesliga Player of the Month twice and a spot in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.

Werner then joined Chelsea in July 2020, where he debuted against Brighton and Hove Albion.

At Chelsea, he scored 23 goals in 89 appearances and was involved in their 2020/21 UEFA Champions League victory, along with wins in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Returning to Leipzig in August 2022, Werner secured the German Cup and the German Super Cup the following year.

Over two stints with Leipzig, he has scored 113 goals in 213 appearances.

On the international front, Werner has been a staple for Germany since his senior debut in March 2017.

He was crucial in Germany’s Confederations Cup victory in 2017 and has amassed 57 caps, scoring 24 goals, including appearances in the 2018 World Cup and UEFA Euro 2020.
