Finn Azaz swaps Aston Villa for Middlesboro
Middlesbrough have announced the signing of Finn Azaz, an attacking midfielder from Aston Villa, for an undisclosed fee.
The 23-year-old has committed to a four-and-a-half year deal with the club.
Azaz brings a significant amount of experience for his age, with over 150 career appearances and 25 goals to his name.
A product of the West Brom Academy, Azaz spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Cheltenham and joined Aston Villa in the subsequent summer.
He furthered his senior experience with a loan spell at Newport, contributing seven goals in 45 matches, and most recently played for Plymouth Argyle, where he boasted 67 appearances and 15 goals, aiding in their League One promotion last season.
Michael Carrick, Boro's Head Coach, expressed his pleasure at the new acquisition. "I'm delighted to bring Finn to the club," Carrick said. "He's an exciting player who already comes with good experience."
Despite his excitement, Azaz will not be playing in the upcoming Emirates FA Cup match against his former club, Aston Villa, and is set to wear the number 20 shirt for Boro.
Reflecting on his move, Azaz shared his positive impressions of the club with mfc.co.uk.
"From the get-go, the club had obviously done their due diligence on me," he remarked.
Azaz felt a strong sense of fit with the team, citing productive conversations with the manager, staff, and players as key influences in his decision to join Middlesbrough, concluding it felt like "the perfect fit."
