Flood vows to score plenty for Galway
Anthony Flood has revealed to Extratime that he has a point to prove as he wants to show that he is good enough to cut it in the Premier Division and that he can score goals there.
The 25-year-old is certainly not short on confidence, which bodes well for Galway United as they are in urgent need of a proven goalscorer to get their season back on track.
Sean Connor’s side have only scored four goals so far and are chasing their second victory of the season. Now that they have someone like Flood leading their line, things might start falling into place for them.
The Dubliner netted his first for The Tribesmen in the 2-2 draw with Sporting Fingal and wants to go on a scoring run after linking up late with Galway due to spending time in England where he was mulling over a contract offered by Aldershot Town.
"It is great to have everything sorted with Galway now as it has been frustrating not knowing where I was going to end up and I was missing out on games during that time," Flood told Extratime.
"I was over training with Aldershot and they were impressed so they offered me a contract. But I was disappointed with the terms they offered, so I turned it down. That was tough to do.
"But I knew that Galway were still interested in me as Sean [Connor] had kept in touch with me during that time and as soon as I was available he told me to come down.
"So now I’m itching to show what I can do with Galway. I think a lot of people don’t rate me as a Premier Division players, but I want to prove them wrong."
Flood scored 14 goals for Shelbourne last season and 20 the year before that. So he is not afraid to state that he wants to score ‘at least 8 before halfway point of the season’.
It took quite a while for Connor to land the Dubliner as he had flirted with moves to Maltese outfit Floriana, to Cork City and Aldershot before eventually linking up with Galway.
But if he can replicate the type of form that he showed for Shelbourne during his two years at Tolka Park then Connor might have just found the solution to his goalscoring problem.
