St Patrick’s Athletic -v- Sligo Rovers
St Patrick’s Athletic welcome Sligo Rovers to Richmond Park on Tuesday evening for their Setanta Sports Cup semi final first leg. The original first leg fixture fell foul of the weather just over two weeks ago as heavy rain caused its postponement.
St Pats come into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Drogheda on Friday night while Sligo come into the game in buoyant mood following a late winner in Bray to secure the three points.
Brian Cash is unavailable for St Pats as the midfielder is cup tied having featured for Sligo earlier in the competition. Defender Ian Bermingham is nursing a hamstring strain and is likely to miss out.
“They’ve a good team and a good manager”, Mahon said of Sligo Rovers. “They beat us comprehensively 2-0 at the end of last season and though the season did not end too well for them last year they’ve added some quality players to their squad since then.”
“It’s over two legs and we can expect two tough games but we’re hoping that we can build some sort of platform on Tuesday night to bring with us to the Showgrounds – we don’t want to be going there in a deficit situation.”
“The last final Pat’s were in was a classic against Derry in wind-swept Landsdowne and it would be great to get into a final again. This is a whole new team and that would be a great achievement for them”, Mahon concluded.
Sligo Rovers will be without Iarflaith Davoren for the match.Davoren is struggling with a hamstring injury that he picked up against Drogheda United. The left-back missed the games against Dundalk and Bray Wanderers and it will be at least a week before he returns to action.
Sligo also have doubts over Richard Brush (knee ligaments) and Gary McCabe (ankle) with both players substituted in the win over Bray Wanderers on Friday night.
Joseph Ndo is ineligible for the game having played for Bohemians in the competition earlier in the season. The Cameroon international has since been unable to line out for his new club following an issue over his work permit, which Sligo hope to have resolved soon.
