Conor Carty joins Doncaster Rovers on loan from Bolton Wanderers
Doncaster Rovers have announced the loan signing of Irish striker Conor Carty from Bolton Wanderers for the rest of the 2023/24 season.
The 21-year-old, who recently completed a loan stint with St Patrick’s Athletic in the League of Ireland, scored six goals in 41 appearances and was part of the team's FAI Cup final victory over Bohemians.
Carty expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, “I’m delighted. As soon as I knew the move was coming up, I jumped on it straight away. I’m really happy to be here. To come to such a big club like Doncaster now, I’m really excited for it.”
The striker developed his skills at Wolverhampton Wanderers before joining Bolton in the summer of 2022. His career at Bolton included loan spells with Oldham Athletic and Gateshead, and he has represented the Republic of Ireland up to the U21 level.
Grant McCann, Rovers' manager, praised Carty’s abilities: “Conor’s a good player. He’s athletic, he wants to run in-behind, he’s a good finisher. He’s come here off the back of a good loan with St Pat’s which went really well for him."
"They won the cup in Ireland and finished in the top three which was a really good season for them. We’re really pleased to get him because there was quite a bit of interest in him from the EFL.”
During his tenure with Rovers, Carty will wear the number 22 shirt. Reflecting on his time in Ireland, Carty believes it has significantly aided his development.
“Getting that exposure and playing in front of that many people was something I needed and something I really enjoyed,” he said.
“Going game after game and playing week in, week out, it was really enjoyable. We had the FAI Cup final in front of 43,000 which was a great experience on a stage I really enjoyed being on. I came on leaps and bounds and hopefully I’ll be able to show that to the fans here at Doncaster.”
Carty, who participated in his first training session with Rovers on Wednesday, is eligible to play in the upcoming match against Harrogate Town on Saturday. “Being around the club and the boys, everyone has been great,” he commented.
“I just want to play as many games as I can and contribute as much as I can to hopefully start climbing the table again.”
