Talented teenager Steven Healy has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Galway United ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Healy, 19, made six senior appearances for the Tribesmen last season and also helped the club reach the under-19 Enda McGuill Cup final last in 2023.

And he will be joined by fellow United teenager David Tarmey who has also been rewarded with a new deal at Eamonn Deacy Park ahead of their top-flight return.

Tarmey scored eight goals for the Tribesmen’s under-19s side in 2023.

“We want to bring as many players through the academy system here, we've had a number of players signed professionally such as Alex Murphy, of course, David Tarmey and more recently Kyle Fitzgerald in December,” United boss John Caulfield said.

“Steven has tasted first-team games, we really like what we see there, with fantastic attitude and determination.

“He's a tremendous player and we really hope to see him push on to another level as a player now.”

Healy joined Galway at under-15 level from local club Maree Oranmore.

“I'm absolutely delighted to sign my first professional contract,” Healy added. “I came into the clubs at under-15 level under Martin Devlin and came up through the under-17s, under-19s and now with the senior team.

“It's going be a challenge but I'm really looking forward to it.”
