Spurs welcome Swedish star Vinberg to squad
Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Swedish international Matilda Vinberg.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has committed to the club until 2026, joining after her contract with Hammarby IF expired.
A Stockholm native, Vinberg began her career at Enskede IK, making her senior debut at 15.
Her talent blossomed at Hammarby, where she was named both Damallsvenskan Breakthrough Player of the Year and Hammarby Player of the Year in 2022.
She played a crucial role in Hammarby's double victory in 2023, winning the Swedish Cup and Damallsvenskan title.
Vinberg, who made her senior debut for Sweden in November 2022, expressed excitement about her new journey in England. "It feels amazing to be here," she said in her first interview with SPURSPLAY.
"I have always dreamt about playing in England. I feel really excited and ready to do this."
Acknowledging the influence of Head Coach Robert Vilahamn in her decision, Vinberg is optimistic about her fit with Tottenham.
"I think this is the right step for me. Dream big and hopefully become one of the best. This is the best club I could possibly be at right now," she added.
Vinberg, known for her speed and technical prowess, looks forward to adapting to the English game's physical and fast-paced nature. She sees similarities between Tottenham's style and that of her former club, Hammarby.
Her potential debut for Tottenham could be in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Sheffield United.
