Treaty United sign Evan O'Connor
Treaty United has announced the signing of 23-year-old defender Evan O’Connor for the 2024 season from Galway United.
O’Connor spent the last two seasons with the Tribesmen where he made twenty appearances and played his part in their First division victory last season.
Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett was happy to have added to his squad ahead of the new season and will be hoping that O’Connor’s winning experience can boost his defence.
“I think Evan will be a good signing, he’s been full-time for the last two years with Galway and he can play right back or centre back which adds to our defensive options and is a big boost,” he said, speaking to the club’s website.
“He’s a big, strong, physical lad and has got good ability. He’ll be training two nights a week with us and, thanks to an arrangement with Galway United, will be doing a bit with them during the week as he’s based up there, so he’ll be practically still training full-time which is great.”
Leitrim native O’Connor began his senior career in 2018 with Longford with whom he was an academy graduate. He moved from there to midlands rivals Athlone and then to Galway following a brief stint in the Limerick District League.
On the back of Canadian investment shortly after the close of the 2023 season, Treaty supporters will be hoping for a positive campaign for the coming year which kicks off with a home Munster derby to Cobh Ramblers.
