Power switches to Sligo Rovers from Shamrock Rovers
Sligo Rovers have confirmed the signing of Simon Power who spent the last season and a half at Shamrock Rovers.
Prior to being with the Hoops, the 25 year old Greystones native had a successful period in the UK where he made 39 League Two appearances for Harrogate Town.
He made his league debut with Cabinteely back in 2015 and spent two seasons at UCD before signing for Norwich City.
During his time at Carrow Road, he had four loan spells - Dordrecht in the Dutch second tier, Scottish Premiership side Ross County, and twice to National League North side Kings Lynn Town.
Power earned four under-21 caps during Stephen Kenny’s tenure as the boss of the Ireland underage team.
He struggled with his fitness during his time with the Hoops who he signed for in July 2022. He played just six times in the second half of that season, scoring one league goal, and in the most recent campaign he made seven competitive appearances bagging one league goal.
Sligo Rovers boss John Russell has brought the speedy winger in as his third new signing to go with JR Wilson and Wilson Waweru.
Russell, speaking to SligoRovers.com said: “I am delighted to get Simon to the club. He is an exciting attacking player with the ability to get fans out of their seats. He has experience in the League of Ireland and League Two and at 25 I feel he is hungry to show the quality he has at this club.”
Simon Power on signing said: “I am still young but I have a lot of games under my belt. My main attribute is pace and power and can get bums off seats and get the crowd going.”
