Deery focused on automatic promotion
Kevin Deery might still be getting used to the First Division, but he doesn't plan on staying there long as he is targeting promotion with Derry City this season.
The 25-year-old only made his first appearance this year in the recent win over Longford Town due to a calf injury keeping him out of the opening round of fixtures.
Now that he is back to full fitness the attack-minded midfielder is eager to help lift Derry to the top of the First Division table as they chase automatic promotion.
For Deery, who was appointed club captain this term, the goal has to be to get The Candystripes back in the top flight, although he knows that it won't be easy to achieve that.
"It's a massive honour to lead the club and I'm hoping to lead the club up to the Premier Division this season - that would be a massive achievement for me," Deery told the Derry Journal.
"That's what's driving the team on and that's what keeps me motivated - the hope of gaining promotion.
"In many of the Derry City teams I've played with we haven't got off to a great start but the players are getting used to each other's games now and hopefully we can keep that going for as long as possible.
"Teams come to the Brandywell to stop us from playing and we need to approach the game confidently, play at a high tempo and keep trying to get at them so the crowd gets behind us."
