Melligan feeling settled at Oriel Park
After scoring his first goal for the club JJ Melligan has admitted that he is enjoying life at Dundalk following his arrival in pre-season.
When Ian Foster started building his squad for the 2010 campaign, it was quite surprising when Melligan was confirmed as one of his new recruits considering the 28-year-old had spent over a decade playing in England.
It was a big coup for The Lilywhites to land the former Cheltenham Town ace as he is an experienced player and adds something a little bit different to their squad.
While he has operated in midfield since joining, Melligan has a tendency to drift forward in search of goals. His luck in this department was no where to be seen until last week's 3-0 win over UCD when he fired in his first in Dundalk colours.
"I’ve been getting close in the last three games. I’ve not been far away but thankfully I got in and got my first goal," Melligan told the club's official website.
Dundalk sit on top of the Premier Division table after six games played and Melligan knows that might surprise a few people as they are still unbeaten this season.
However, he knows how hard they have been working and it is this impressive start which has helped him settle in so quickly at the County Louth club.
"I’m enjoying it. It’s a lot different to England, obviously, but I’m enjoying it," he said.
"The standard is decent. Hopefully we can continue on playing well and hopefully we can stay where we are.
"Someone has got to be top of the league after six games, so it’s us now and hopefully we can hang onto it. But it’s so early that you don’t want to get carried away."
