Waweru signs two year deal with Sligo Rovers
Sligo Rovers have confirmed the signing of Wilson Waweru ahead of the 2024 League of Ireland season.
The striker joins the Bit O’Red on a two year contract from Galway United having spent the 2023 season on loan at Cobh Ramblers where he scored 13 goals.
“Wilson is a very good player that I am excited to bring to the club. He came through the Galway United academy and always stood out when he broke through to their first team,” Sligo Rovers manager John Russel said, speaking to the club’s website.
“I have tracked his development and he is moving to us after scoring a lot of goals at Cobh last year.
“He is a natural finisher, he’s quick, strong, and capable of running in behind. He comes to us at a good age and is a player I’m excited to have with us next year.”
The 22 year old joined Galway United from Mervue United and came up through the Tribesmen’s academy before Alan Murphy gave the striker his debut in 2018.
He scored 16 goals for United in the four season after his debut before his breakout season this year with Cobh where he netted 13 times as he helped the side to a third place finish in the First Division.
