Charlie Lyons has completed his switch to Cork City from county rivals Cobh Ramblers.

Lyons, 23, joins the Turner’s Cross side after just missing out on promotion for the Rams.

The Cork born defender made more than 100 appearances for Cobh and Galway United over the past five seasons.

And he joins a City side who must start again after being relegated back to the First Division after just one season.

He is determined to face the challenge awaiting him under City boss Tim Clancy.

“I have come here to win a league hopefully and get promoted straight away. Tim has made it clear that his intention is to go straight up by winning the league.

He has done it before at Drogheda and I am delighted to be on board with him.

I am delighted to get the deal over the line. It is a massive club, with a massive fanbase, and I can’t wait to get going”

In other news, academy graduate John O’ Donovan, has signed a new contract. The 19-year-old made his first team debut in the season just gone and ended up making 15 appearances.

He stated: “Being from Cork and having come through the academy, it really hurt the way last season went. We know how big this club is and want to be back in the Premier Division.

"We have a good side, with some good players coming in, so hopefully we can bounce back and have a good season.”
