St Pat’s move to sign Aaron Bolger

Aaron Bolger has completed his switch to St Patrick’s Athletic from Cork City.

Bolger, 23, joins the Inchicore club after his former side were relegated from the Premier Division after a heart-breaking playoff defeat to Munster rivals, Waterford.

The former Longford Town, Cardiff City and Shamrock Rovers midfielder made nearly 100 appearances in his time at Turners Cross.

An underage international player of the year in 2018, he helped the Rebel Army to the First Division title in 2022. That year he was named on the team of the season and City player of the year.

He joins the reigning FAI Cup holders in a squad, that now includes his former City colleague Ruairi Keating, who are determined to halt Shamrock Rovers title charge for five in a row.

Despite the strength in depth, he is relishing the challenge awaiting him under Jon Daly.

“I’m over the moon to sign for St Pat’s, it’s a massive club, when I heard there was interest, I was really excited about the opportunity”, Bolger told St. Pats media team.

“The midfield in Pat’s is really, really strong, but I’m looking forward to getting in with the boys and getting going. St Pat’s play a really attractive brand of football and I’m also someone who looks to get the ball down and play nice football.

Pat’s had a really good year, in the cup and in the league, with Europe to come next year, we’ll want to retain the cup again and go one step closer in the league. It’s going to be a really exciting season for the club and I’m happy to be part of that.”

Manager Daly on the signing of the former Rovers player stated, "We're really pleased that Aaron has joined us, especially given the interest in him from a number of clubs.

He is an excellent midfield player and someone who we've been keeping close tabs on for the last couple of years.

He'll fit in well with the group and will add good competition for places in that department of the pitch.

At 23, Aaron has got good experience and has played a high number of games in the League of Ireland.

I'm delighted to welcome him to the club and am looking forward to working with him."

Bolger becomes the Saints fourth new signing of the transfer window, after Brandon Kavanagh, Cian Kavanagh, and Ruairi Keating all joining the Inchicore side the last few weeks.
