Kerry FC has announced that goalkeeper Lee Axworthy has re-signed with the club, ensuring his presence between the posts for the 2024 SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division season.

Axworthy will continue his career at Mounthawk Park following a mid-season move to the club in 2023.

Born in Dublin but with familial ties to Kerry, Axworthy has a history with the county that dates back to his early childhood and maintains connections through family in Lispole and Milltown.

His football career has taken him from St Albans City to Brentford U19's and eventually to training with Brentford's B team, gaining valuable experience at the U23 level.

In his first season with Kerry FC, the 22-year-old made 12 appearances and was pivotal in securing points for the club in the league.

Axworthy expressed his dedication to the club, “It means a lot to be back playing for the Kingdom again in 2024. I’ve been putting in a lot of work during the off-season like all of the boys to make sure we come back firing ahead of the opening game.

"I’ve got an exciting feeling about this Kerry team and I can’t wait to get the place rocking again! Can’t wait to see you all back in Mounthawk Park soon."

Conor McCarthy, the First Team Head Coach, shared his satisfaction with Axworthy's decision to stay on.

“We are delighted to have Lee on board for 2024. He was a great addition to the group when he signed in the summer window.

"He had some brilliant performances towards the end of the season and made some crucial saves in big games for us.

"It will be great to have Lee from day one this season and I know he’s really looking forward to getting back on the pitch,” McCarthy said.
