First Division side Kerry have unveiled the re-signing of talented striker Daniel Okwute ahead of the 2024 season.

Okwute, 20, rose through the ranks in the Kingdom before they had a senior League of Ireland representative team.

But he returned earlier this year after a spell in the UK with Stockport County and a prior loan with Finn Harps.

And after making 12 appearances for Kerry in all competitions this term, he is back.

“I’m really happy to have re-signed for Kerry,” Okwute said. “Last year was tough but I had a really good experience playing my first bit of men’s football in a Kerry shirt.

“I hope we hit the ground running when we are back.

“We know what to improve on and I think we all know what to expect now so there should be no excuses why we aren’t getting points on the board this year.”

And new Kerry boss Conor McCarthy added: “We’re delighted to have Daniel on board for 2024.

“Daniel is a player who has come the whole way through the Kerry pathway and has even had a spell in the UK with Stockport County.

“He represents exactly what Kerry is all about in terms of his hunger and desire to work day in day out to improve and progress his career.”

Okwute becomes the fifth man to commit his future to Kerry, following on from earlier signings of Ryan Kelliher, Sean McGrath, Ronan Teahan and Ethan Kos.
