Grivosti signs Saints contract extension

St. Patrick’s Athletic are not resting on their laurels after a highly successful 2023 season and are already in the process of constructing their squad for next season which kicks off in February 2024.

They moved this week to tie down central defender Tom Grivosti to a new deal that will keep him at Inchicore until November 2024, along with bringing in Brandon Kavanagh and Cian Kavanagh from Derry City.

The 24-year-old Liverpudlian Grivosti had a very difficult season at Richmond Park this year as he suffered an ACL injury in a game against Dundalk back in May.

He joined Pats in Jan 2022 but only made eight appearances this season following that injury and missed out on contributing to their third place finish in the league table and then that memorable FAI Cup win over Bohemians.

He had a lot of experience prior to joining the Inchicore club, having been at Bolton Wanderers as a youth player from where he went on loan at Skelmersdale Utd.

He joined Scottish club Ross County in 2020 and made his debut against Ayr Utd in a Scottish Championship league game before later going out on loan to Scottish League Two side Elgin City.

Despite missing the bulk of this season, Grivosti had obviously done enough prior to that for Pats manager Jon Daly to offer him a contract extension for another year.

Grivosti could not hide his delight at being offered the deal when he spoke to with stpatsfc.com, he said: “I've loved my time at Pat's so far and have some brilliant memories, especially playing in the European games last season and some of the big nights we've had in Inchicore.

“The supporters have been amazing and I love playing in front of them. I'm very settled at the club and living in Dublin, and I'm excited for 2024.’’

Daly was equally enthusiastic about retaining Grivosti and he added: “He has shown during his time with us that he is one of the best centre-backs in the country and has been an excellent player for St Pat's over the last couple of years.”
