Kevin Doherty commits his future to Drogheda United with new two year contract
Kevin Doherty has signed a new two year contract with Drogheda United which will take him to the end of the 2025 season.
The manager is making the step from part-time to full-time with the Boynesiders as United prepare for the 2024 season.
“I’m absolutely thrilled. Transitioning from part-time to full-time with Drogheda is a dream come true,” Doherty said, speaking to the club’s website.
“Wes (Hill) and I have a shared enthusiasm for propelling this club forward. Drogheda holds immense, untapped potential, and I’m proud to spearhead our journey on the sporting side and continue to build on the identity and success we have all created. And I am ready to compete.”
Doherty arrived at Drogheda in 2017 as assistant manager, he took over the reigns when Tim Clancy departed the club to take up the managerial job at St Patricks’s Athletic at the end of the 2021 season.
He has guided United to an eight place and a seventh place finish in the last two seasons.
“From day one Kevin immersed himself in everything Drogheda United is about. He has built a great relationship with officials, volunteers, staff, and sponsors, but more importantly he has a bond and trust with the fanbase,” Drogheda United Chairperson, Joanna Byrne, said speaking to the club’s website.
“He always has superseded expectations – whilst operating with limited resources in challenging times. Kev’s raw passion is infectious and that is evident when you see the fire he brings out of his players.
“Never has the Claret & Blue been worn with such energy and determination. He is, in my opinion, probably one of the best managers this club has ever had and I’m confident he is the right man to lead the first team forward at this exciting time for us.
“His unwavering commitment to Drogheda is heartwarming, he has made our Club his own, and I believe the best is yet to come.”
