LSL Senior Sunday round-up: St Mochta’s go top as St Francis claim scalp against Lucan United

St Mochta’s returned to the top of the league thanks to a 2-1 win over Wayside Celtic on Friday night at Porterstown Road.

And their cause was aided significantly by Lucan United’s shock 2-0 defeat at home against St Francis.

But it was Gareth McCaffrey’s brace that set Mochta’s on their way to victory against Wayside.

The former Drogheda United striker scored two goals from the spot to see Brian McCarthy’s men past the South Dubliners.

Wayside made a fist of it during the latter stages of the game with a consolation strike from Darragh O’Connor.

But the big result of the weekend came at O’Hanlon Park as newly-promoted St Francis beat title challengers Lucan United.

The John Hyland Park outfit won thanks to two goals from Niall Lanigan.

And that victory has catapulted them up to fourth place with their third win in eight games.

Meanwhile, Home Farm also picked up a point against Tolka Rovers - but they could have had more.

In-form Shane Lyons gave them a lead before they were pegged back at the death when Ryan Harte equalised.

Kilbarrack United also maintained their good showing this term with a 3-1 success against Killester Donnycarney.

Clayton Maher, Deiric Hyland and Eamon Mulligan all scored for Kilbarrack. Ex-Sunderland and Cabinteely striker Robert Dunne found the net for Killester Donnycarney.

Liffey Wanderers also stretched their unbeaten run to three games with a 2-0 victory against Maynooth University Town.

Club stalwarts Conor Riddick and Mark Sandford both netted.
