St Patrick’s Athletic -v- Drogheda United
Airtricity Premier Division League leaders St Patrick’s Athletic host second from bottom Drogheda Utd at Richmond Park this Friday evening. (kick off 7.45pm)
After drawing mid-week with fellow title challengers Bohemians and conceding their first goal in the league, St Pats will want to continue their unbeaten run and pick up all three points against a Drogheda side who have yet to win a game in the league this season.
Saints manager Pete Mahon isn’t taking anything for granted and believes Drogheda will cause his side problems on Friday night.
“All five of the premier division games played during the week ended in draws which re-affirms my belief as to how difficult it is to win matches in this league. Drogheda have more strengths throughout their team than their current league placing may suggest”, Pete Mahon said.
St Pats have no suspensions or injury worries ahead of the game and Pete Mahon has a full squad to choose form.
Drogheda United come into the game with the worst defensive record in the Airtricity League by some way, having conceded 15 goals in six games and this has contributed to their poor start to the season, leaving the Louth side with just three points.
Alan Matthews has selection problems ahead of the game with several players carrying knocks. Paul Crowley, Brendan McGill and Corie Treacy are all doubts for Friday night’s clash, with others having to be assessed at training on Thursday night. Joe Kendrick is suspended for the match.
After already beating St Pats at Richmond Park this season, albeit in the Leinster Senior Cup, Alan Matthews is feeling upbeat about his side’s chances in this league meeting.
‘The win over St Pats in the Leinster Senior Cup will have no bearing on Friday’s game. We are looking forward to it, if we play to our full potential we can certainly take something from the game’, Matthews said.
