Shamrock Rovers confirm departure of club captain Ronan Finn

Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that club captain Ronan Finn is set to depart the club at the end of the 2023 season, the midfielder will join UCD for the 2024 season.

Finn will play his final game for the Hoops tomorrow night when they host Sligo Rovers at Tallaght Stadium (kick off 7.45pm).

“We are really grateful to Ronan for all he has done for Rovers,” manager Stephen Bradley said, speaking to the club’s website.

“I’ve said before, he was my most important signing and I still say that now. He set the standard and changed the culture in this club about how to lead and he drove this team forward.

“He arrived for his second spell in 2017 in a team that wasn’t winning and he leaves as captain of a regularly winning team. He has been an incredible force at Rovers and we are proud and happy for Ronan and his family, and wish him all the best for his future.”

Finn’s career is coming full circle with the midfielder returning to UCD where he began his senior career in 2005 where he would stay until 2009 – joining Sporting Fingal for a year before joining Shamrock Rovers for his first spell with the Hoops.

He had an incredibly successful career across his two stints with Shamrock Rovers winning five Premier Division titles, one FAI Cup, a President’s Cup, two Setanta Cups, one EA Sports Cup and a Leinster Senior Cup.
