First Division Playoff Preview: Cobh Ramblers -v- Wexford
COBH RAMBLERS
Cobh Ramblers host Wexford at St Colman’s Park in the first-leg of their promotion play-off tie on Saturday evening holding a 1-0 advantage (kick-off is at 5pm).
Ramblers claimed a narrow victory at Ferrycarrig Park on Tuesday night after Mikie Rowe’s corner-kick found the net.
And while there was confusion surrounding who scored the goal, it mattered little for the Cork side.
That goal meant they brought a 1-0 advantage to Saturday’s second-leg and they will be keen to complete the job against the Slaneysiders.
And if they do, they would face the winners of the tie between Waterford and Athlone Town in the First Division play-off final next weekend.
But before they can think of that they must defeat a side who have beaten them already this season, albeit not at St Colman’s Park.
WEXFORD
Trailing after Tuesday’s first-leg at home, James Keddy brings his Wexford side to Cobh looking for a big result to turn the tie around.
Wexford were undone by set-piece, which is unlike them, in the first-leg.
But they will be backed by a strong away following at St Colman’s Park.
Over 1,000 fans turned up for the first leg on Tuesday night with a strong away following set for a road trip along the South Coast on Saturday.
And they will be buoyant despite their latest setback.
This is the first time Wexford - in their current guise - have reached the First Division play-offs and they were one of the form sides heading into the play-offs.
In their last 15 league games, they picked up 28 points. Only Galway picked up more with 36.
Referee: Marc Lynch.
