Stephen Kenny’s Ireland claimed a routine victory over Gibraltar in Faro on Monday night.
After three successive defeats against France, the Netherlands and Greece, the win is unlikely to ease the pressure on Kenny – but it is a win, nonetheless.
Evan Ferguson opened the scoring for the Boys in Green in the first half before Celtic winger Mikey Johnston doubled their advantage before the interval.
Matt Doherty then got in on the act when he scored from a corner-kick routine in the second period.
Callum Robinson then netted to make it 4-0 as the game approached its closing stages.
But the Boys in Green remain in fourth place in Group B – and they will remain there following the Netherlands 1-0 win over Greece in Athens on the same night.
