Peamount United claimed the WLOI title courtesy of a 2-0 win over Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday afternoon. A brace of second half goals from Ella Dolan, her fifth and sixth goals respectively of the campaign, was enough for the Greenogue based outfit to claim an unassailable lead at the top of the table.

Having finished four points behind league winners Shelbourne last season, James O’Callaghan’s outfit were determined to wrestle back a trophy they’d last won in 2020 and, after one defeat- to Shelbourne- and a goalless draw with Shamrock Rovers in their opening seven games, they went on to win eleven league games in a row and amassed a total of 49 points.

Spearheaded by the goalscoring exploits of ex DLR Waves attacker Kate Mooney, the league’s joint top scorer on 9 goals, and the 12 clean sheets from the experienced Niamh Reid-Burke- Peas put the disappointment of last month’s Women’s FAI Cup penalty shootout defeat to Athlone Town behind them to regain a trophy they won in both 2019 and 2020.

Despite the loss of experienced campaigners Aine O’Gorman and Stephanie Zambra and exciting forward Alannah McEvoy to league newcomers Shamrock Rovers prior to this campaign, impressive contributions from Sadhbh Doyle, Erin McLaughlin and inspirational skipper Karen Duggan- who all netted 5 league goals- saw the South County Dublin based outfit storm to the top of the table.

The fortnight prior to the break for the Women’s World Cup saw three successive victories over Shelbourne (1-0), Athlone Town (5-3) and Shamrock Rovers (1-0) which created a platform for the six successive league wins and four clean sheets which followed.

They round out the season with a game away to Galway United (November 4th) before returning to PRL Park on November 11th to host Sligo Rovers.
