Turner’s Cross is set to witness a partial stadium closure in Cork City's upcoming home league clash against Shamrock Rovers on 23 October 2023.

This decision comes in the wake of the recent Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup Semi-Final between Cork City FC and St Patrick’s Athletic FC, during which several missiles were hurled onto the field. A concerning incident during the match saw a player being hit by an object.

In response to the incident, an Independent Disciplinary Committee of the FAI has ordered the closure of one section of the Derrynane Road Stand and two sections of the Curragh Road Stand at Turner’s Cross.

The FAI has reiterated its stern position on such episodes, stating, "The FAI maintains a strict zero tolerance approach towards spectator misconduct and is committed to ensuring that League of Ireland matches remain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone."

This isn't the first instance in recent weeks where spectator misconduct has resulted in stringent action.

It follows closely on the heels of the Independent Appeal Committee of the FAI upholding a decision that bars Drogheda United's fans from an imminent away game against Shamrock Rovers.

The move was a result of an incident at Oriel Park on 29 September 2023, where a match official became the target of a pyrotechnic during a game between Dundalk and Drogheda United.

The FAI has emphasized that these measures, though severe, are to curb the misconduct of a minority.

They remarked, "The FAI acknowledges the great work carried out by League of Ireland clubs in relation to spectator misconduct and recognises that this behaviour is by a minority of individuals."

Nonetheless, they remain unwavering in their zero tolerance stance.

As per FAI Disciplinary Regulations, there's an option to appeal the decision regarding the partial stadium closure at Turner’s Cross.

Meanwhile, Drogheda United fans will be notably absent from the upcoming match on 20 October 2023 at Tallaght Stadium.
