League Preview: Kerry -v- Galway United

KERRY

Basement boys Kerry will be hoping to spoil Galway United’s First Division title party on Friday night at Mounthawk Park (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Kingdom have impressed in recent weeks and are unlikely to be an easy fixture for the all-conquering Tribesmen.

In fact, they even drew their last home outing against Longford Town 0-0 and were only narrowly defeated by Athlone Town last weekend.

Impressive forward Leo Gaxha has been a key man for Billy Dennehy’s side all season and he scored for the Kingdom during their 2-1 defeat at the Co Westmeath venue.

Kerry have not reported any further team news for Friday’s game.

GALWAY UNITED

FAI Cup semi-finalists Galway United will clinch the First Division on Friday night with just a single point when they take on Kerry.

And they could even win the title without one if Waterford fail to defeat Longford Town at Bishopsgate at the same time.

But their boss John Caulfield is keen for his side to wrap the league up as soon as possible as they prepare for an FAI Cup semi-final against Bohemians next month.

“We have a chance to win the league in Kerry with six games to go which is incredible,” he told Galway Bay FM last week.

“It’s a funny one because it’s probably a game that they are looking forward to as well.

“It’s great for us to go down there and hopefully we can bring a massive crowd with us to the game and hopefully we can get the result.”

Referee: Alan Patchell.
