Scottish Premier League side Glasgow City have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international Abbie Larkin from Shamrock Rovers.

The 18-year-old joins the Scottish champions on transfer deadline day on the back of some impressive performances for Ireland at the FIFA World Cup in Australia last month.

Larkin signed for the Hoops last winter after winning back-to-back league titles with Shelbourne.

On signing for Glasgow, Larkin told her new club website, “I’m delighted to be signing for Glasgow City FC. I’m excited to get started and I am looking forward to this next step of my career.”

Glasgow City head coach Leanne Ross added: “I am delighted to have secured the signing of Abbie Larkin on transfer deadline day.

"With a long, tough season still ahead, it was important to strengthen the attacking options within the squad, so to bring in a player of Abbie’s quality and experience is a huge coup.

"Although just 18 years of age, Abbie has already played in the Champions League and represented the Republic of Ireland at the World Cup Finals this summer, achievements which highlight the calibre of player she is.

"Abbie is a technically gifted, creative player with an eye for goal. She can play attacking midfield or forward positions and will certainly add to the attacking threat posed by the team with her ability to assist and score goals.

"I am excited to bring Abbie to Glasgow City and very much look forward to working with her.”

The Ringsend native had made 16 league appearances for Rovers this season, finding the net on nine occasions.

The forward will join up with her new team-mates, who include fellow Irish internationals Emily Whelan and Claire Walsh, after the upcoming international window in which Ireland face Northern Ireland at the Aviva Stadium and Hungary in Budapest in the UEFA Nations League.

Larkin played in all 15 league games this sesason for Rovers as well as making one FAI Cup appearance.

She has scored five league goals for the Hoops this season and also scored four goals in the FAI Cup including a hat trick against Killester-Donnycarney FC on her come back from the World Cup last month.
