Stephen Kenny to stay on as Ireland boss until end of Euro 2024 campaign

Ireland boss Stephen Kenny is set to stay on as manager until the end of the Euro 2024 qualification campaign.

That is according to FAI CEO Jonathan Hill who revealed the news in a pre-prepared statement to the media at Abbotstown on Thursday morning.

Kenny has come under fire in recent days following two successive qualifying defeats to France and the Netherlands.

And those two defeats mean that the Boys in Green are relying on other results to reach a play-off to qualify for Euro 2024 in Germany next summer.

Ireland still have to play Greece at home, Gibraltar away and the Dutch away in their remaining qualifying games.

But Hill insists that the association will back their man until a review takes place at the end of November.

“We want to qualify for major tournaments, the public want it, the FAI want it and football in Ireland needs it so we are of course disappointed to have lost the last two games,” he said.

“These will be discussed at the next FAI board meeting in September to  review all international windows as normal.

“Whilst we might not have achieved the results we hoped for during this campaign, with qualification for the tournament set as a goal at the outset, I know the managers and players are fully focused on the remaining matches this year.

“And they will prepare for and deliver those matches accordingly.



"Once those matches are played, as with the women's World Cup campaign, we will then conduct an in-depth review of the campaign in its entirety.

“And after the final friendly match in November against New Zealand the board will then meet to consider this review and the next steps.”
