Eileen Gleeson appointed interim head coach of the Ireland women's national team
Following last night’s depature of Vera Pauw from her position as manager of the Republic of Ireland team, on Wednesday morning the FAI confirmed that Eileen Gleeson will take on the role of interim head coach of the Girls in Green.
She will take charge for Ireland’s opening two UEFA Nations League games in September.
Ireland host Northern Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday September 23 before travelling to Budapest to take on Hungary the following Tuesday.
Gleeson, who is currently FAI head of women and girls' football, was previously involved with the Ireland team as assistant coach.
The FAI noted in a statement that she ‘will now lead the team on an interim basis as the recruitment process for the new head coach begins’.
Gleeson's managerial career includes spells at Peamount United, UCD Waves and Glasgow City. She took up her current role at the FAI earlier this year.
